A few things to know.
Is the example really free?
Yes. Every example length is prewritten and ready to play. It uses fictional memories, requires no personal details, and costs nothing.
How personal can I make it?
Start with a meaningful place and memory. Add your own questions, chosen answers, alternative answers, and hints in the optional personal evidence section. You can edit your saved case and rehearse separately.
What does it cost?
$19 per adventure. Examples are free. Review and rehearse your personalized adventure before checkout. The full price and payment status are shown before you pay.
Who can see my personal details?
Your creator link contains the answers and final surprise—keep it private. Players receive a separate link that reveals clues as they solve them. Use nicknames and details you’re comfortable including. Browser drafts are optional, and you can delete your created adventure from its creator page.
Is this an online mystery or a scavenger hunt?
Choose a screen mystery to play wherever you are, or a scavenger hunt with printed envelopes hidden in real places. For a hunt, you choose every hiding place and prepare the envelopes first. Each solved location points to the next envelope; the device checks answers and saves progress.

Your adventure, your details.
Written in Clues is operated by CXHQ LLC. Privacy questions and deletion requests: team@writteninclues.com. Effective October 18, 2026.
We store the details you submit, generated adventures, progress, purchase email, payment references, support messages and necessary operational records. Optional drafts are stored in your browser. We do not request photos or store card numbers. Stripe processes payments; Resend delivers service emails; Render hosts the service.
We use your details to create and deliver the adventure, recover access, provide support, prevent abuse, and maintain the service. We do not sell your adventure details or use them for advertising. The current puzzle builder uses templates and rules, without sending your submission to an AI provider.
Basic aggregate measurement. We count daily page loads and actions such as opening each builder step, validation errors by fixed category, completing the sample, reviewing an adventure and starting checkout on our own server, separately from Google Analytics. Only the UTC day, action, a broad allowlisted source (such as Reddit) and a total are saved for up to 90 days. These counters do not store visitor IDs, IP addresses, device fingerprints, personal answers or private links. They count actions, not unique people. We do not send these counts to Google. You can stop basic counts in Analytics settings; Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals also disable them. Remembering your choice uses a browser preference. Hosting providers may separately process necessary request/security logs.
Optional site analytics. If you choose Allow analytics, Google Analytics uses cookies and browser/device information to measure visits and steps such as playing a sample, reviewing an adventure and starting checkout. Private access links, names, emails, answers and story details are excluded from analytics. Google may process analytics information on servers outside your country. We disable advertising features and optional Google data sharing. Analytics cookies last up to 90 days. You can decline and still use every feature, or change your choice using Analytics settings below.
Creator links expose answers and the final reveal. Player links expose the game and progress. Treat links as private access credentials. Avoid sensitive information and use nicknames rather than identifying children.
Adventures remain stored until deleted or the service is retired. Delete an adventure on its creator page or request help by email. Clear browser drafts separately. Scheduled application backups are retained for 14 days. Hosting-provider snapshots may retain earlier copies longer under the provider’s retention settings; payment and business records may need to be retained for legal, accounting, or fraud prevention purposes. Recovery tokens expire after 30 minutes.
You can export your adventure from the creator page. Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information; we may need to verify you control the purchase email.
